Kyûsu - Hakusan - 白山
This work by Master Hakusan of Tokoname (常滑), showcases his ingenuity and sensitivity. It is a typical work of his, is a greenish ceramic made from green slip and often carries an individual mogake glaze.
Each Kyûsu is therefore unique. Having a art-work by Master Hakusan makes tea drinking so much more enjoyable.
With the Mogake technique, strings of algae are tied to the raw pottery, and the firing creates a random pattern that is unique to each object.
This Kyûsu works through the integrated round sieve particularly good.
Artist: Katayama Hakusan (白山), born in 1949, 3rd generation master potter.
Master Hakusan is a warm and friendly person who enjoys his work. He studied with his father in 1968 and is the third generation to inherit the trade.
His grandfather opened a pottery factory in Tokoname (常滑) in 1935.
The clay comes from around Tokoname and has probably been used as clay for pottery since the 12th century. This clay is very fine and gives the surface of the pottery a fine and smooth structure.
Since the stocks of clay are exhausted, the works gain in value.
